I came across some great “Cookbook” white-papers today on how to backup Virtual Machines running on Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1. These are implemented using the new Volume Shadow Copy Service functions in SP1. This allows you to backup a virtual machine while it’s running.
