I’ve put together a bunch of screenshots that show off the new functionality in the April CTP of Rosario which was released to the public recently. Included in the CTP is a set of mini-stories that are designed to show off what’s changed in this release. The mini-stories have this to say about Source Control Explorer:

While we are not yet finished developing new features for the Rosario release, the CTP 12 snapshot shows many new and exciting enhancements of the Version Control and Build systems in Team Foundation Server. The following list is a snapshot of new functionality available in this build.

Many Source Control Explorer usability enhancements:

  • Editable source location field
  • Last checkin column
  • Hyperlinks to local working folders
  • Simplified workspace mappings

TFS Rosario - Source Control Explorer dialog

When you open Source Control Explorer and set the focus to the Source location field, it becomes editable and acts in much the same way as the Address Bar in Windows Explorer. You can type in a new location and it will change to that folder. It also makes it easier to copy & paste a source control path (instead of going into the properties of a file).

You’ll also notice a commonly-requested feature from Visual SourceSafe users - the ‘Last Checkin’ column. Very obviously this shows the last time a particular file was checked in :-)

Another useful addition to the screen is that the local workspace folder mapping is a hyperlink. This means that you’re one-click away from the files on your local disk. Much easier than opening the properties screen and copy/pasting the local path.
