Grant’s Getting Hitched
March 12, 2006 at 8:03 am | In Life | 5 CommentsOnly 5 more days to go! Almost 18 months ago, I proposed to my fianceĆ© Emma. This Saturday 18th March is “the big day” and I’m looking forward to it.
The past few months have been extremely busy for the both of us, there are so many things that need to be organised for a wedding (not to mention we’re building a house at the same time!). My advice to others is – elope, but most families don’t like that idea, they want to celebrate.
The other neat bit about getting married is the honeymoon. At this time next week, we’ll be in an Airbus A340 (the longest range passenger jet in the world) on our way to a well-deserved holiday in London and Western Europe.
We’re visiting 8 different coutries with 8 different languages in just under a month (in no particular order: England, France, Switzerland, Italy, The Netherlands, Germany, Spain and UAE). Some of the places that I am really looking forward to are: Stonehenge, Greenwich, Barcelona, the Swiss Alps and the French Riviera.
It looks like Em and I will have a long winter this year – the max temperatures range from about -2°C to 14°C at this time of year and by the time we get back, it will be time to turn the electric blankets on in Canberra.
So that’s it from me, see you all in just over a month’s time! I’ve got plenty of blog ideas to work on when I get back.
Readify OPML now Validates
March 12, 2006 at 6:15 am | In Technology | No CommentsSince Darren was having problems reading my Readify Bloggers OPML list, I have looked into what the problems were.
Essentially it comes down to OPML 1.0 being a very loosely defined spec. This means that everybody who has implemented it – implements it in a slightly different way, which causes all sorts of problems. I’m not the only one who’s having problems see “OPML is a crappy, crappy format”.
So to ensure some sort of consistency I’ve run it through the OPML Validator Beta and come up trumps. The format I will be using from now on will be OPML 1.0:

A recently recruited Readify consultant in Sydney, Francois Beaussier has also been added to the list. Although it’s not a requirement to be with Readify, Francois used to be a C# MVP from France. Welcome aboard!
Security Interchange in Canberra, NSW
March 9, 2006 at 9:51 pm | In Technology | No CommentsBesides not actually being held in the A.C.T. (it was at Rydges Eagle Hawk just over the border) – last night’s Security Interchange event was a great success. Geoff has a terrific write-up of the night.
Each of the presentations had a ‘wow’ moment for me and I can’t wait to have a look at some of this stuff.
- Rocky – Microsoft Threat Analysis & Modelling 2.0. Check out the recent web cast.
- Michael Kleef – InfoCard. Think of passport, but without putting all your eggs in somebody else’s basket. Check out Kim Cameron’s blog for more,
- Jeff Alexander – Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM). I’ve really got to get MOM installed somewhere and have a look at what it can do. Check out AVICode and other management packs.
Thanks to all the guys for putting together the roadshow. If you weren’t able to make it, then keep an eye out for the web casts on the Australian Security Forum web site: http://www.microsoft.com/australia/eforum/
How do banks process electroic transfers in Australia?
March 2, 2006 at 2:05 pm | In Technology | 1 CommentHave you ever wondered why it can take up to 3 days to do a third-party transfer for internet banking in Australia? I mean, all they do is shift electronic money from bank to bank, and account to account right?
Well, Jonno is working on an 8 part series that describes electronic payment systems in Australia. Part 2 is currently my favourite, and gives some answers to the above question.
(P.S. I got this via the Australian Tech Bloggers list – techtalkblogs.com, go and vote for stories you like. Or if you have an Australian techo blog, add it to the list.)
